Stipends to increase by 20%

The quantum of the stipends for the superior education institutions will be increased by 20%, decided on Wednesday, April 26 the Cabinet of Ministers. The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Victor Tsvircun, declared for the press that three special studentships were instituted as well: the presidential studentship – 470 lei, the Government’s studentship – 430 lei and the Gaudeamus studentship – 360 lei. According to him, the students who study on contract basis or in private institutions will also be able to benefit of the Gaudeamus studentship. Victor Tsvircun mentioned that the decision will come into force starting with January 1, 2006, so the studentships for the first trimester will be recalculated. The Minister could not state precisely the sum allocated by the Government for the increase of the studentships. In 2005 the studentships were increased by 25%
