Steps will be taken to improve condition of roads, Vlad Filat

The road fund this year is 2.5 times larger than last year and will continue to increase the next years, Premier Vlad Filat said Friday in the meeting of the committee for supervising the implementation of the road sector program. Filat stressed that the Government take steps to obtain foreign financing to build and repair the roads, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Government. “The poor condition of the roads is one of the major problems faced by Moldova. We realize we have yet a lot to do until we have a modern and safe road infrastructure,” the Premier said. Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Boris Gherasim said the Transport Ministry prepared a set of projects that will enable to significantly improve the condition of the roads in 2010 if the backers agree to provide money for their implementation. The meeting was attended by ministers and representatives of the World Bank, the EBRD, the EIB, the MCC and the European Commission.
