The stepfather of the 11-year-old girl who gave birth last December was placed in custody. The information was confirmed for IPN by Violina Moraru, the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Moraru said the man is being questioned on rape charges. He has denied any wrongdoing so far, despite investigators having evidence to the contrary, Moraru added.
The man could face up to 20 years in prison or even life sentence.
Meanwhile, the girl has been placed in an assistance center for interviewing and psychological counseling.
It was earlier reported that the girl is not from a socially vulnerable family. But with her mother working abroad, she and her brothers had been placed in the care of the woman’s domestic partner.
