Stepan Dimitrov becomes European taekwondo champion

Moldova had a good start at the European WTF Taekwondo Championship, the Olympic version. Stepan Dimitrov became champion in the 54 kg class, IPN reports.

In the final, the athlete from Chisinau beat Georgios Simitisis of Greece. Spain’s Jesus Tortosa Cabrera and Turkey’s Dolas Mehmet won bronzes. One of the best Moldova’s athletes Vladislav Arventii, who in 2010 won bronze in the European Under 17 Championship, will also compete for the title of European champion in Baku.

Andrei Rotaru, who was close to qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games, is also expected to win a medal. Moldova is represented by eighth athletes.
