The article forms part of IPN’s information campaign that presents biographical data, information about the incomes and property and professional experience of candidates for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau.

Ștefan Urîtu is contending for the post of mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau on behalf of the Political Party “People’s Will” that he leads.

He was born on Jaunty 9, 1951 in Ustia village of Dubăsari district. He is married and has three daughters.

In 1966-1967, he studied at the Veterinary and Animal-Breeding College in Carmanova village of Grigoriopol district. In 1973-1977, he studied at the Tiraspol State Teacher Training Institute, the Faculty of Physics and Math. In 1980-1983, he studied for his doctorate, serving as an inferior scientific researcher at the Moscow Institute of Nonferrous Metallurgy “I. P. Bardin”.

Since 1977 until 1979, he worked as a lecturer at the Tiraspol State Teacher Training Institute, in 1983-1988 – as a senior lecturer, while in 1989-1992 he was a member of the National Council of the People’s Front.

Between 1990 and 1993, as part of the branch in Tiraspol of the People’s Front, he founded the first nongovernmental association – the Human Rights Committee of Transnistria. Its goal was to monitor the crimes against humanity committed by agents of the former KGB and the separatist regime established by the “ALPHA” group of the Federal Security Service (FSB). In 1988-2010, he was a lecturer, pro-dean of the Faculty of Physics and Math of the Tiraspol State University based in Chisinau. In 1993-2010, he headed the Moldovan Helsinki Committee for Human Rights.

In February-September 2010, he worked as an adviser on political issues to acting President Mihai Ghimpu. Since August until December the same year, he sat in Parliament as a representative of the Liberal Party. Since 2011 until October 2015, he served as deputy head of the Central Election Commotion, while in 2015-2016 he was a CEC member.

He is now a pensioner and manages the commercial organization “Larimaris-Lex” SRL that he founded in 2004. For the last year before the local elections, he declared 114,000 lei pensions and 10,000 lei donations. Since 2006, the candidate has owned half of a lot to the value of over 1.1 million lei. He also indicated a bank account with 30,000 lei and a bank loan of 150,000 lei taken out in 2009.

Ștefan Urîtu said that his priorities are to improve the management of municipal enterprises, to solve the problem of congestion by synchronizing the working hours of entities that generate a large flow of vehicles and to work out the general urban development plan. “I have the necessary experience and knowledge. I know the problems experienced in Chisinau and I have a team together with which I can solve these problems,” stated the candidate.
