Stefan Uratu was discharged from the post of deputy head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on October 13. Such a decision was taken following the recent statements made by Uratu and his participation in events that were political in character, CEC says in a communique, quoted by IPN.

The CEC members harshly criticized the accusations made by Stefan Uratu, saying this made absolutely unfounded statements, questioning the legality and correctness of the elections that were confirmed by the Constitutional Court, the courts of law and all the national and international election observation missions.

Seven CEC members of the eight attending the meeting voted for the dismissal of the CEC deputy head. The CEC specified that Stefan Uratu will yet continue to serve as a member of the Commission.

In the protest mounted in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on October 4, Stefan Uratu said the last two elections were rigged.
