“Only the replacement of the political elites will enable the European integration to enter again Moldova’s real agenda,” said jurist Ștefan Gligor, the standing expert of IPN’s project “Overcoming of European Integration Stereotypes through Communication”. “Moldova needs an adequate and integral parliamentary majority and understanding by the overwhelming majority of society of the fact that there is no better public policy for Moldova and what economic and social development course it should follow,” the expert stated in IPN’s public debate “Current place of European integration on Moldova’s sociopolitical agenda”.
“But we are driven from one side to another. They promised to restore the Soviet Union and we voted for them. But they turned out to be thieves. They promised to integrate us into the European Union and we voted for them, for the same thieves. We have been deceived for almost 30 years. It’s time to choose people who proved their integrity and who are not suspected of having been involved in acts of corruption,” stated Ștefan Gligor.
He urged to eliminate the emotions, subjective and private assessments from politics. “We must distance ourselves from the stereotypes coordinated by the West-East, from any political speculations and manipulations. We need those who are in power to speak about the real reform agenda. We, as society, should learn to honestly put the politicians the question: why did they come to power?” said the expert.
He reminded that the European integration represents the state’s consent to renounce a part of its sovereignty and to accept a policy adopted by the member states of the European Union. “This can be done only by a government empowered by society to implement the European integration. To launch the reform process in Moldova, a parliamentary republic needs a simple parliamentary majority trusted by society,” stated Ștefan Gligor.
According to him, the current government is not able to do reforms because it does not pursue such a goal. The opposition includes few people who realize what reforms are. “We have few upright politicians, while our opposition often slips towards populism and abides by the rules of the game imposed by the left. However, we are obliged to change the state, to improve it as this will lead to economic development, to a flow of investments, to jobs and improvement of the quality of life on the whole,” stated Ștefan Gligor.
