For the representative of the right to win the presidential elections of this November, the parties of the right should unite around an idea, jurist Ștefan Gligor, civic activist, stated in IPN’s public debateAutumn of elections: expectations and challenges in European development context”.

According to him, now the opposition saves its main rival – the incumbent President. “The PSRM and Igor Dodon banked on several moments – infrastructure projects and results achieved by the Government. But they failed because the real state of the economy and the budget turned out to be much worse than they expected. The pandemic and the drought intervened. As a result, there are now no internal resources of political technologies to improve the President’s image and to aim the rating curb up. Igor Dodon now does not have what to sell to the population, not even stories,” explained Ștefan Gligor.

“Only the parties of the right can save him now. These should stop fighting between them and should realize that currently Moldova needs a victory over falsity and corruption. To win this victory, the right should unite around an idea and should find a person that would embody this idea”.

The expert is convinced that Moldovan society enormously needs honesty and integrity. “The Socialists cannot prove that they are a source of honesty and integrity and cannot thus gain the population’s confidence. The rating declined as a result. Meanwhile, the voters of the right will reorient themselves and a lot will then depend on the runoff,” stated Ștefan Gligor.

He considers there is one more condition – the quality of the pre-electoral message. “The message of those of the right is too abstract and sentimental and is close to the religious terminology. But they should use terms related to projects and reforms and to public policies. We hope that this type of conception will emerge on the right and unity around an idea will be ensured there.”

The public debate “Autumn of elections: expectations and challenges in European development context” was held as part of the project “Overcoming stereotypes of European integration through communication” that is implemented with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
