The annulment of the Parliament decision on the appointment of Domnica Manole as a Constitutional Court judge is an attempted coup against the constitutional regime of the Republic of Moldova and an attempted coup, said the president of the Party of Change Ștefan Gligor, being quoted by IPN.

“The parliamentary majority controlled by Dodon, Plahotniuc and Shor, opposing vehemently the Constitutional Court’s decision on the dissolution of Parliament, resorted to a direct attack on the constitutional regime of the Republic of Moldova with the aim of delaying the snap elections and of enriching themselves by keeping control over the schemes employed to rob the state and the own citizens,” stated Ștefan Gligor.

The Party of Change describes the parliamentary majority’s actions as an anti-constitutional coup and an illegal attempt to institute political and criminal control over the Court. “The Constitutional Court is independent and obeys only the Constitution, while the post of judge of the High Court is irremovable. The Party of Change calls on all the upright political forces and all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who plead for democracy and the rule of law, to make common cause to defend the Constitution and the Constitutional Court. Dear citizens, we are obliged to free Parliament from political parties that are subordinate to criminal organizations that formed a parliamentary majority with a criminal goal and keep Parliament and our society hostage,” said Ștefan Gligor.

He noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office should examine this case and urgently institute criminal proceedings over attempt to usurp the power in the state and to hold all the involved MPs accountable.

On April 23, Parliament annulled the decree to appoint Domnica Manole as a Constitutional Court judge and adopted a statement on the capture of the Constitutional Court. Also, Boris Lupașcu was named CC judge instead of Manole by the votes of 56 MPs. The PAS and PPPDA MPs didn’t take part in the vote, leaving the sitting in protest at the agenda.
