Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, together with his Georgian and Ukrainian counterparts Irakli Kobakhide and Andriy Parubiy, signed in Tbilisi the statutes of the Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine Interparliamentary Assembly. The Assembly will be a consultative body and will facilitate cooperation for the common security policies, the implementation of reforms and rapprochement with the European Union, IPN reports, quoting the Parliament’s press service.

Among the priorities of the Interparliamentary Assembly are to actively promote the position of the three states on the international arena and to cooperate against misinformation and propaganda. The Assembly will meet once a year in each of the member states on a rotational basis.

“We are determined to strengthen our common defense capacities against challenges. We call on the European Union and the United States to further support Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia on the difficult path of democratic reforms,” stated Andrian Candu.

He noted that Moldova understands that now that the parliamentary elections are coming, the hybrid threats will be aimed against the most sensitive areas and attempts will be made to undermine the democratic developments in the country. Additional instruments and coordinated reactions are needed to improve the capacity of the three states - Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine – to respond to common challenges and to increase the security level in the region.

The Delegation of Moldova’s Parliament is in Georgia on a visit during October 5-7.
