Moldova is an example of success and it will make progress on the path to European integration if the reforms are continued and if political stability is ensured. The statements were made after the third European People’s Party (EPP) Summit of heads of state and government of the Eastern Partnership member states that took place in Chisinau, IPN reports.

The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Vlad Filat said that this summit is useful for strengthening the cooperation relations between countries and for preparing for the Vilnius summit. “The European partners showed that they are our sincere friends. Owing to them, the Republic of Moldova finished the negotiations on the Association Agreement,” he stated, adding that Moldova has friends that will assist it in achieving the set objectives. He voiced hope that such meetings will become a tradition.

The president of the European People’s Party Wilfried Martens said that this is an important meeting before the Vilnius summit that will take place in autumn. He stressed that the countries whose parties are EPP members have different ways to cover. “We are near these countries in order to encourage them, to support them and to bring the necessary reforms,” said Wilfried Martens. He added that the EU’s doors are open for Moldova, which will come closer to the EU if it continues the needed reforms and ensures political stability.

Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, who heads the Republican Party, said that cooperation between all the EaP member states is important. The Eastern Partnership must be comprehensible and accessible to every citizen. “It is a form of cooperation that is not against a certain state, but that is designed to help overcome the barriers that divide us,” he stated.

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakasvili, who leads the United National Movement Party, said that Moldova is an amazing example as it implemented important changes on the path to European integration. The reforms launched in Moldova and the new generation of politicians are examples to be followed.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that in the event they discussed the strategy after the Vilnius summit, the opportunities that will appear after the signing of the Free Trade Agreement and the actions that Moldova must take for the citizens to be able to travel freely in the EU.

The event was organized by the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova.
