Next year the state will be able to cover the costs for performing 30 transplant operations – 10 hepatic transplants and 20 renal transplants. The surgeries will be paid for through the National Health Insurance Company, while the Ministry of Health will cover the costs for patients’ rehabilitation and already allocated 14 million lei for the propose, IPN reports.
National Health Insurance Company director general Mircea Buga told the journalists that there is a waiting list of persons who need transplant, but the problem of donors is yet to be solved. If need be, the Company will cover the cost of several more operations from its reserve fund, besides the 30 planned transplants.
About 1.2 million lei is needed for a liver transplant and 300,000 lei for a kidney transplant.
Eighteen liver, kidney and cornea transplants were performed in Moldova in 2013, by specialists from the country and abroad.
