The Government approved the preemption right of the state to purchase the privately owned building located at 16 G. Banulescu-Bodoni St with the aim of creating the museum of victims of deportations and political repression. The building is 385.5 square meters in area, IPN reports.
The decision to found the museum was approved in July 2010, but this cannot be implemented because one third of the building is privately owned. The co-owner rejected the numerous requests to take part in the rehabilitation of the building made by the Ministry of Culture. Now the given firm is insolvent and the right to own the building was transferred to the Rural Finance Corporation for debts.
The law on the protection of monuments provides that the preemption (priority) right over monuments put up for sale is given to the state. The given clause favors the purchase of the building that is assessed at over 6 million lei. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research budgeted such an amount for 2017 and will release the money when confirmative documents are provided.
