“Nicolae Testemiţanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy presented its admission offer at the Doors Open Day. The teaching staff, alongside students of the university, on Saturday told the students graduating this year from high school and their parents how the educational process is carried out and organized tours in the lecture halls and the student campus, IPN reports.
Rector Emil Ceban said that the Doors Open Day is very important for the university. “We are ready to offer everything we have in the university, to convince the young people of the Republic of Moldova, the best of the best high school graduates, to come to the University of Medicine so that we train them to be the future doctors of the health system of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the rector. Emil Ceban also said that the educational offer is constantly changed so as to attract as many students as possible to the university and new specialties have appeared in recent years. The University provides programs of study in traditional specialties, such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, but also new undergraduate study programs, such as Public Health, Optometry, Radiological Technology. New master programs have also been developed, such as Human Nutrition, Public Mental Health.
The Faculty of Dentistry’s dean Oleg Solomon said the dentist must not only have fundamental specialized knowledge, but also be a psychologist, know how to communicate with patients. In addition to dentistry, students learn anatomy, biochemistry, general surgery. In the first and second years, students learn to work on different molds and then work in the oral cavity of the patient. At the third, fourth and fifth years of study, they work with patients who come to university dental clinics. Dentistry develops together with information technology and the university must offer the students what’s best in the field to prepare them for the future profession. These realities also dictate the cost of studies, the fee being around 55,000 lei per year.
Vice-dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Livia Uncu said that the specialty of pharmacist enjoys popularity and after graduation the young people get jobs not only in pharmacies, but also in pharmaceutical companies, hospitals. At the faculty, students learn how medicines are prepared, how to conduct quality analysis of medicine, medicinal plants are analyzed. At the university, especially at the Faculty of Pharmacy, there are all the conditions for the graduates of high schools teaching humanities to improve their knowledge in exact sciences and reach the level of graduates who studied such sciences. The Faculty of Pharmacy offers about 100 places, 10 of which are budget-funded ones. Students on a contract place will pay a fee of 30,500 lei annually.
The master’s program in Human Nutrition is a new program of study with a duration of two years after obtaining the bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Food Safety, Physical Therapy. Associate professor Ovidiu Tafuni said that after graduation, the person can be employed in public catering institutions, spa resorts. The Nutrition program teaches anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, nutrition fundamentals, elements of communication with clients or patients. Lectures last from 17.00 to 20.00, which is why the offer is very good for those working in the health sector.
Students who participated today in the Doors Open Day noted that they are eager to study at the university and want to get acquainted with the educational offer. Some of the young people said they are passionate about medicine and have already chosen the specialty they want to study, while others need information to make the right choice. Future students are attracted by a career in medicine as they are willing to help the people, but also by the prestige associated with the medical profession and the development opportunities it offers.
