For the 2017 admission session, the State University of Moldova (USM) has launched the program “Excellence Scholarship” that is designed to help lyceum graduates who obtained excellent results at national and international Olympiads and other prestigious competitions. The program is intended for applicants who want to study math, physics, informatics, chemistry and biology, IPN reports.
In a press release, the USM says the program envisions the provision of three categories of excellence scholarships throughout the studies for a Bachelor’s degree at the USM, with mandatory confirmation through excellent academic results during exam sessions. The first category includes a scholarship of 1,500 lei a month and free accommodation in dorms for candidates with remarkable results at national Olympiads, the second category – a scholarship of 2,000 lei a month and free accommodation in dorms for candidates with remarkable results at prestigious international competitions, while the third category – a scholarship of 3,000 lei a month and free accommodation in dorms for candidates with remarkable results at international Olympiads.
Free places in the dorms of the USM will be provided at the request of the scholars. Also, the State University of Moldova offers budget places financed with own funds for applicants who want a Bachelor’s degree in math, physics, informatics, chemistry and biology with an average contest grade higher than 8.00 and for specialists from social sciences and humanities with a contest average grade higher than 9.00. The persons who filed applications to study at the USM through the e-Admission platform will be exempted from enrolment fee.
During the past few years, the USM took a series of actions to consolidate performance in education, research and innovation. Merit ranks were offered to the University’s personnel during four years. These included financial stimuli based on teaching and scientific results that came to 7.2 million lei. Financial support was also provided to authors of scientific articles published in magazines with an impact, totaling 86,000 lei a year. The USM co-financed scientific researches, participations in different national and international scientific projects and contests, to the value of 3.4 million lei a year. A sum of 3 million lei a year was invested in the equipment of research labs. During the sixth year, the USM celebrates the Performance Gala where the best holders of a Bachelor’s degree are enrolled at Master’s degree studies based on budget places financed by the USM.
