The state will start to purchase wheat for the state reserve on August 11. Public auctions will be held in every territorial-administrative unit. According to Ion Turcanu, the director general of the Agency for Material Reserves, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Aid, the auctions are open for national cereal growers registered by the empowered bodies of the territorial-administrative units. The state will buy only wheat with a gluten content of at least 18%. The price offered by the state for a tonne of food wheat with a gluten content of 18-20% is 3,000 lei, 21-22% - up 3,150 lei, 23-24% – up to 3,350 lei. A price of 3,500 lei is offered for a tonne of wheat with a gluten content of more than 25%. The payment for the food wheat for the state reserve will be made within 10 banking days of the moment the wheat is stored at the depository, Ion Turcanu has told Info-Prim Neo. The volume of food wheat that will be purchased from the national agricultural producers from every territorial-administrative unit depends on the area of the wheat fields cultivated in 2008. The Agency for Material Reserve, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Aid will procure about 40,000 tonnes of food wheat of the 2008 crop for supplementing the state reserve.
