The Moldovan authorities are looking for a building that would house the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in France. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said that large rental has been paid during 25 years for headquarters. Therefore, it was decided to purchase compound so as to make sure the Moldovans in France have access to high-quality consular services, IPN reports.

Sergiu Odainic, acting secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said that the embassy has temporary headquarters that it needs to free by September 12. As a result, the provision of consular services would be suspended.

“We all know the importance of identifying a building so as to ensure optimal conditions for our embassy in Paris, including our citizens’ access to consular services with adequate areas and desks that would process several applications concomitantly so as to avoid the formation of long lines. This property will be amortized in time. It will ensure comfortable conditions for the citizens who will use the embassy’s services and will contribute to improving our country’s image in France, which was affected by the problems associated with the absence of appropriate compound during the last few years,” said the official.

According to Sergiu Odainic, the rental for a head office paid since 1997 has been high but the money could have been invested in other projects. “It is important to make this investment that will considerably diminish the future costs that will be recouped in time. By this acquisition, we avoid paying very high rental that now totals about €300,000 a year or at least €25,000 a month,” explained the official.

Currently, the Republic of Moldova owns embassy compounds in such capital cities as Brussels, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Washington D.C., Moscow, Minsk, Odessa, Kiev, and New York.
