“The tax administration reform is one of the main changes we must make for the business environment and the people,” Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in the launch of a cooperation project between the State Tax Service and the Swedish Tax Agency. “This project will help us work out methodologies and operational manuals that will help improve tax administration. I’m convinced that these new elements will contribute to the elimination of corruption, which is one of the major goals of the Government,” he added, quoted by IPN.
Swedish Ambassador in Chisinau Ingrid Tersman said that this project has special importance not only for the tax authority, but also for the country in general. “We hope there will be modified not only the tax administration procedures, but also the attitude to the taxpayers,” said Ingrid Tersman.
The head of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Ion Prisacaru said that emphases will be put on the reformation of tax inspections and the extension and improvement of the services provided for taxpayers. “We hope the number of taxpayers that fulfill their obligations to the budget will increase and the budget revenues will thus rise,” he stated.
The three-year project has a budget of US$2.5 million. The money is allocated by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Other development partners will also contribute to the implementation of the project, especially to its communication aspect.
