About 8,800 routes are daily provided by the state-run bus and minibus terminals, but none of the units of transport running on these routes belong to the terminals. Director of the state-owned company “Garile si Statiile Auto” (“Bus Terminals and Stations”) Stefan Vieru has told IPN that only units of transport that belong to private carriers run on the about 4,000 national and international routers, while the terminals provide only such services as ticket selling, dispatcher and baggage keeping.
The owners of units of transport are responsible for the safety of passengers, but Sfetan Vieru assured that all the involved vehicles were accredited and the National Auto Transport Agency makes sure that these meet the road safety standards. Also, on the territory of the terminal, the dispatcher service before departure verifies the set of documents that contain information about vehicle inspection, medical examination of the driver etc.
In Moldova, there are 29 bus and minibus terminals and stations that belong to the state. Unlike terminals, the stations do not sell tickets and do not provide dispatcher services. There are also five booking centers in settlements with a population larger than 5,000 people.
