State owes nearly MDL 2.5 bln to National Bank

The debt of the State to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), as of February 28, 2007, was MDL 2.49 bln being the same as at the end of January. The debt is constituted from the previously contracted debts (about MDL 2 bln) and from securities that got to BNM portfolio after the conversion of some previously contracted debts of about MDL 400 mln (with the purchase price). As a result of the appraisal of the debts and the evaluation of the securities from the BNM portfolio with the market’s prices, the balance of the state debt amounted to MDL 2.53 bln including the previous loans offered to the state (MDL 2.1 bln) and the value of the BNM securities (MDL 405.1 mln).
