State officials gave their condolences to the family and friends of the late film director Victor Bucataru. The well-known filmmaker, journalist and man of culture died on August 12 at the age of 65, after suffering a cardiac arrest one week earlier. The letter of condolence was signed by President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and Speaker Igor Corman, IPN reports.

Victor Bucataru was born in Moara de Piata village of Drochia district on December 25, 1948. He graduated from the Film Direction Faculty of the Arts Institute in 1971. He was a member and then the chairman of the Filmmakers Union of Moldova until 1993. In 1991, he created the Independent Film Studio SINM.

Victor Bucataru is the author of video reports about the Transnistrian armed conflict of 1992. Since 1973, he had made dozens of documentaries, films and musical productions. He recently launched a documentary about the armed conflict titled “Massacre of innocents or chronicle of a forgotten war”. For special accomplishments in filmmaking, he was conferred the title of Master of Arts in 1993 and the medal “Mihai Eminescu” in 1998.
