State of public health emergency in Moldova effective until Jan. 15

The National Extraordinary Public Health Commission chaired by Prime Minister Ion Chicu decided to institute a state of public health emergency for the period between November 30, 2020 – January 15, 2021, IPN reports.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Commission decided to close nightclubs (discothèques, karaoke and disco bars) as from November 28 this year. Also, as of November 30, the restaurants, bars and cafes could work until 10pm. The public eating places will not be allowed to work between 10pm and 7am.

During the state of public health emergency, the organization and holding of scientific conferences, sports competitions and Olympiads with the physical presence of persons will be banned. The presence of spectators inside theaters, cinemas, concert halls and homes of culture will not be allowed.

The public and private institutions will set a special working regime and will use only the employees who are strictly needed to ensure the functionality of enterprises.

The timetable of public transport and number of vehicles on routes will be adjusted according to needs during rush hour. The drivers, ticket conductors and passages will be obliged to wear protective masks throughout the trip. It will be allowed holding assemblies and festive events involving at most 50 persons.

Premier Chicu said that he asked the Prime Ministers of Latvia and Lithuania to allot a part of the vaccines they will get from the EU to Moldova. “I will also discuss with my counterpart from Hungary, with colleagues from Romania and the Russian Federation for vaccines to be also provided to the Republic of Moldova, when all the testing and approval stages are over,” he stated.

To motivate the population to donate blood and convalescent plasma for treating persons infected with the novel coronavirus, Ion Chicu asked to draft an amendment for rewarding the donors with 3,000 lei, which is to be approved in the next meeting of the Cabinet.
 

According to Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu, the hospitals in the municipality of Chisinau are 90% full, while in districts – 85%. In a week, they will activate one more hospital in Chisinau for treating persons with COVID-19, with the capacity of 260 places.
