The state institutions are expected to formulate proposals for cutting back on spending so that the available sums could be used to weather the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Moldova, IPN reports.

In a posting in on a social networking site, President Igor Dodon said the presidential institution already finalized the first plan for reducing costs by over 4 million lei. These costs are associated with purchases that are not absolutely necessary, with trips and bonuses intended for the personal and other purposes.

“I call on all the state institutions to behave responsibly and to treat this request to reduce costs with maximum seriousness,” said President Dodon.

He noted that together with the Parliament Speaker and the Premier, they will analyze the way in which each institution satisfies this request and will intervene where necessary. “The campaign to contain the epidemic can be long-lasting, tiresome and very costly for the state. Therefore, we must be responsible and economize maximally,” wrote President Dodon.

A state of emergency for 60 days over the novel coronavirus outbreak was declared in Moldova on March 17.
