The State relieved the tax payers from liabilities of 4 billion lei, under the presidential initiatives on tax amnesty and economy liberalisation. Until August 1, tax amnesty was applied to all liabilities listed in the records of the State Tax Inspectorate, of the National Social Insurance Fund (CNASS), and of the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM), payable until 1 January 2007 and unpaid until 11 May 2007, Sergiu Puscuta, chief of the State Tax Inspectorate, told a news conference Thursday. According to the cited source, 32 thousand taxpayers were exempted from debts to the State Budget totalling 3.1 billion lei, of which liabilities made up 1.2 billion, penalties – 1.05 billion, and fines – 780 million. 277 thousand payers of contributions to the social insurance fund benefited from a 948 million lei debt relief, of which liabilities constituted – 735 mln lei, penalties - 201 mln, and fines – 10.7 mln. Another 7 thousand economic entities benefited from fiscal amnesty for the debts owed to the health insurance fund. The total sum equals to 8.3 million lei, of which liabilities made up 2.7 million, penalties – 4.9 million, and fines – 700,000 lei. Puscuta pointed out that any taxpayer may request from the relevant territorial tax agency a certificate confirming the debt exemption. This certificate can be further used by commercial entities to introduce the results of the tax amnesty in their ledgers. At the moment when the President announced his initiatives on tax amnesty, the debts owed by commercial entities to the State Budget as of 1 January 2007 were said to be 2 billion lei.
