The state does not ensure the people’s security and these can anytime be kidnapped by the militia of the breakaway republic of Transnistrian. Such statements were made by invitees to the program “Fabrika” of Publika TV channel, who discussed the ill-treatment and kidnaping of a couple from Floresti district by the Transnistrian militia.

Ex-deputy minister of the interior Ghenadie Cosovan accused the Moldovan authorities of doing nothing to protect the citizens at a time when the representatives of the separatist forces remain unpunished. “There were a number of cases similar to the one that happened in Floresti. Last November, the representatives of the Transnistria militia humiliated our journalists. We, the former combatants of the Nistru war, identified then 22 employees of the Transnistrian KGB near the Chisinau airport. What did they do there, near a strategic facility of Moldova? If we continue like this, we could witness even the kidnapping of our head of state,” he said.

Valentin Dediu, ex-director of the Security and Information Service, confirmed that a number of people from the right side of the Nistru were kidnapped by the separatist security forces. “This case that happened in Floresti may be a provocation. It is very serious. Even if the couple from Floresti is suspected of crime, the four militiamen of a separatist region that is not recognized didn’t have the right to come and ill-treat that couple and then kidnap them. Transnistria is a crime zone. Those who commit crimes on the right side of the Nistru hide there and vice versa. The Moldovan authorities must find a solution,” he stated.

Vadim Vieru, jurist of the Association “Promo-Lex, said that such cases of kidnapping are often staged in collusion with the Moldovan police. “In 1998, the Ministry of the Interior of Moldova signed a cooperation agreement with the similar body of Transnistria. But in 2001 this accord was annulled by the Appeals Court. Regretfully, the Transnistrian militia and the Moldovan police hide behind this agreement that no longer exists. I hope that our police weren’t involved in the Floresti case,” he stated.
