All the state bodies that have a connection with the banking system of Moldova will more attentively monitor the situation of banks, President Nicolae Timofti said after the June 11 meeting of the Supreme Security Council, IPN reports.

The meeting was held behind closed doors and lasted for over two hours. The head of state said that amendments will be made to the legal framework so as to stop the actions that endanger the security of the banking system. “I hope we will manage to prevent criminal groups from appropriating goods that do not belong to them,” stated Nicolae Timofti.

The President avoided speaking about the situation of Moldova-Agroindbank, arguing the state institutions haven’t yet completed the investigation. Recently, the administration of this bank informed that it became the target for new fraudulent acts on the part of a group of persons who bought its shares. Afterward, seven of the bank’s shareholders revealed their identity. The preliminary conclusions show that the data presented by them are contradictory and do not refer to transactions with the bank’s shares.

Head of Parliament Igor Corman told the journalists that the combating of appropriation of bank shares implies very close cooperation between the state institutions. “It is important not to focus only on the punishment of these persons. We should think how such actions can be prevented,” he stated, adding there are no reasons for panic as the situation is under control.
