There are 90 000 children who will go to the 148 educational institutions in Chisinau in less than two weeks when new school year starts. Organizing the educational process in a safe way is a real challenge under the current pandemic conditions. The statements were made during the opening of the Chisinau Teachers' Forum, organized by the Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport (DGETS), IPN reports.

Natalia Griu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said that today the whole county has been put in a position to review the philosophy of the organization of the educational process. However, any difficulty, any challenge also offers opportunities. For us these are learning opportunities, opportunities to create a safer school,” stressed Natalia Griu.

Acting Head of DGETS, Andrei Pavaloi, mentioned that in the new school year, the work for developing the infrastructure of the education system and improving the quality of provided services will be continued. Renovation work has been carried out in several schools and kindergartens. In some institutions, they still continue and finalize it. On the same way, the preparatory work for the new school year is taking place despite the pandemic conditions. In this respect, an additional funding of nine million lei have been allocated. Andrei Pavaloi assured, that all necessary hygiene products for educational institutions will be fully available by 30 August.

The 2020-2021 academic year starts with a shortage of 540 teachers for the primary and secondary level educational institutions in Chisinau. Since August 15 the procedure for recruitment of teaching staff has started and 26 applications are currently accepted.

The report also shows that, in the period 2008-2020, more than 18,000 students from primary and secondary level educational institutions from Chisinau municipality left the country, together with their families. The number of children who left in the past 12 years is equal to the number of students in 21 educational institutions. Last year 94 students dropped out of school, compared to 50 students a year earlier. One of the main reasons for this is that students leave the country without picking up personal files.

The Chisinau Teachers' Forum "Education today: between vision and action" takes place online this year, from 19 to 21 August.
