Stalls for producers should be available in all city markets, Chisinau Mayor says

Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca of Chisinau is again concerned about the availability of stalls for agricultural producers in the city markets. At a City Hall meeting on Monday he instructed the relevant officials to pay increased attention to the situation of the markets and to come up with solutions for producers. Dorin Chirtoaca said he visited the Central Market last week. The market administration proposed a total reconstruction of the commercial space, to which agricultural producers will also have access. At present, the owners of private stalls at the Central Market say they offer 20-30% of the space to small-scale producers. The Mayor is for allocating a special space for producers in the markets, so as the buyers know which it is. The General Mayor sought these requirements to be fulfilled in all city markets, so as to avoid unauthorised trade, especially in agrifood, outside the markets.
