The Romanian Television Corporation (SRTV) is disposed to discuss with any company that wants to retransmit the channel TVR 1 in Moldova. According to the Press Bureau of SRTV, this is one of the set of measures taken to continue to broadcast TVR 1 in the Republic of Moldova.
The cited source announced that in order not to interrupt the transmission of TVR 1 in Moldova until this yearend, SRTV signed a contract valid for a month with ICS Telefe M International SRL, which is not yet exclusive. So far, TVR has not received applications from other companies that want to retransmit the channel TVR 1.
In the same connection, TVR welcomes the protest against the halt in retransmitting TVR 1 in Moldova, organised by the Union of Journalists of Moldova in Chisinau on December 10.
The Press Bureau specifies that TVR and the Government of Romania took all the steps necessary to renew the protocol with the Ministry of Information Development (MID) of Moldova. The licence of the Romanian Television issued by the Broadcasting Coordination Council on February 14, 2006, which allows broadcasting TVR 1 on Moldova’s territory, is valid until February 14, 2011.
The cited source reminds that TVR and MID, through the agency of the State Radiocommunication Company of Moldova, on December 28, 2006 signed a protocol of cooperation in retransmitting TVR 1 on Moldova’s territory, valid until June 13, 2007.
Immediately after the protocol was signed, TVR and the Government of Romania identified the financial resources and initiated talks with the Moldovan authorities in order to make sure that TVR 1 will be retransmitted in Moldova after the given period.
Currently, TVR owes nothing to the Moldovan side as all the previous debts have been cleared.
However, the Broadcasting Coordination Council stopped relaying TVR 1 in Moldova on the state-owned network No. 2. Therefore, the Romanian Television appealed the Council’s decisions to the administrative panel of the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
In parallel with the lawsuit which TVR will continue, including the notification of the European Court of Human Rights, SRTV takes all the measures possible to provide the Moldovan citizens with access to the TVR 1 programmes, at least until the disputes with the Council are solved.
