As many as 142,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine donated by the Russian Federation to Moldova were delivered to Chisinau on April 24. President Maia Sandu didn’t attend the greeting ceremony. Earlier, the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon, who says that this donation is his merit, noted that the President’s intention to come to the airport represents limitless cynicism, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon went himself to Moscow so as to bring the lot of Sputnik-V vaccines to Moldova together with a group of members of Russia’s State Duma. When he arrived in Chisinau, accompanied by the Russian delegation, the Socialist leader said that they witnessed attempts to block the delivery of the vaccine. He noted he met with obstacles in the signing of the contract as the Moldovan side refused to sign it, but he didn’t provide details. The Russian side covered the costs for shipping the 142,000 donated vaccine doses. “I brought them personally as I initiated discussions with the administration of the Russian Federation on the delivery of this vaccine,” stated Igor Dodon.
The ceremony involved Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi, who said that the vaccine had been awaited in Moldova. The Moldovan authorities plan to purchase this type of vaccine in the future, with state budget funds.
Earlier, Igor Dodon suggested Maia Sandu, in her role of the promoter of a pro-Western policy, not to come to the Chisinau International Airport to take part in the Sputnik-V vaccine handover event. “She wants to come to the airport to meet the vaccine. This is limitless cynicism,” Dodon stated in a TV program.
The Russian authorities announced they would donate 180,000 vaccine doses to Moldova and 60,000 of them would be intended for the Transnistrian region.
