The first-fourth graders on February 29 enter the spring vacation that ends on March 8. For the upper grades, the vacation begins on March 4. The spring vacation is a month and a half distance from the winter vacation. Specialists say that even if after these breaks the students, especially the smaller ones, concentrate with difficulty during classes, they need vacation because the school program is very demanding.
Svetlana Gorea, head of the Psycho-Socio-Pedagogical Center of the Chisinau Education Division, said the vacations are welcome for students given that the school program is loaded. “I’m for vacations because the school programs are overloaded and the children need time to rest, especially the children of the lower grades. I also consider that these should not be given homework for the vacation,” she stated.
On the other hand, the psychologist thinks that the students need a period of adaptation after the vacation. “The smaller is the child, the longer the period of adaptation should be. The first-fourth graders need about a week to adjust themselves to the pace of the school day as they respect no regime during the vacation,” said Svetlana Gorea, adding that the elder students can adapt during a day.
The next vacation is the Easter one. It will last for ten days, from April 30 until May 9.
