Writer Spiridon Vangheli has been awarded “Ion Creanga” prize for his activity dedicated to books for children. The prize has been awarded on Saturday, April 21, as part of the closing ceremony of the 11th Edition of the International Children Book Fair. Speaker Marian Lupu, who handed the prize, said that Vangheli’s works have been translated into about 40 languages, and published in more than 8 million copies. Lupu added that the Children Book Fair proves that this action took root and acquired beautiful traditions. “It is a great day, first of all for children, because the Fair offers them a great gift – education and spiritual values. The book is and has to remain the best friend of the child”, Lupu mentioned. The closing ceremony of the Fair included the awarding of prizes for the Book of the Year 2007 (“Enciclopedia Guitz” (“Guitz Encyclopaedia”) by Lica Sainciuc), Children’s Preference (“Alfabetul poetic” (“The Poetic ABC”) by Arcadie Suceveanu), educational book (“Intalnire cu Mihai” (“Meet Mihai”) by Ion Bejenaru and “Taina Stejarului” (“The Secret of the Oak”) by Ion Muscalu) etc. More than 100 publishing houses from 8 countries participated in the International Children Book Fair, presenting more than 15,000 books.
