The chemical-biological substances of the Green Spaces Association are not efficient in the fight with the months that invaded Chisinau’s chestnut-trees. Ecologists are worried that other trees could also be damaged, if new substances for killing these insects will not be found. Specialists say that at the moment the only solution is to collect and burn the affected leafs. According to the interim chief of GSA, moths, responsible for the damaged trees, are an old problem of the specialists. The high acidity abundant rains and the high temperatures create benefic conditions for the spread of these insects. For preventing and combating them, in trees’ vegetative period, special insecticides are used. However, theses actions are not always efficient. Grigore Chitic, specialist of GSA, says that this situation is due to the chemical-biological substances admitted in Chisinau. In order to exclude negative effects over population, these insecticides have a limited destructive action. The Association announced that it will solicit supplementary resources from the Chisinau Municipal Council for researching and identifying new fighting methods. At the same time, species with high resistance will be planted in Chisinau, for example the red chestnut-tree. According to GSA, about 5 thousand chestnut-trees are planted in Chisinau, a half of them being sick.
