Specialists in education from five countries are taking part in the fifth international conference centering on the adjustment of the national education system to the European standards. Among the invitees to the event held in Chisinau are experts from Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Italy as well as teachers from the municipality, deans and rectors.

Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said that nine workshops will be staged during two days. There will be discussed a wide range of subjects, including the role of trade unions in education, school autonomy, inclusive education, and the use of information technology in education. Inclusive education is one of the topical problems that cannot be implemented nationwide because many parents oppose it. The teachers need special training to help the children with special needs to integrate into the class.

Valentin Guzgan, principal of the Chisinau Lyceum “Ion Creanga”, believes that the education system of Moldova is crowded as regards the taught subjects. “In the Western countries, priority is given to the child’s vocation. Our education system is good for a school director, who must know all the subjects at the same level. It’s not normal to adjust a whole system to the needs of a person from 100,” he stated.

Traian Duminca, math teacher from Suceava, considers that one of the main drawbacks of the education system of Moldova, as in Romania, is the integration of children with special needs into the school system. One of the solutions is to adopt an adjusted and differentiated curriculum. As to copying, the installation of video cameras in Romania led to a decrease in the percentage of students who passed the Baccalaureate and, respectively, in the number of students admitted to universities.

Gabriel Paladi, director of the Financial-Banking College based in Chisinau, said that the preuniversity education financing reform has many shortcomings, including as regards the food for students and the investments made in schools.

The international conference “Unity through Diversity”, themed “European standards for quality education”, is organized by the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport of the Chisinau Municipal Council.
