Specialists working in different fields, with such duties as the identification, compliant assistance and referral of cases of trafficking in human beings, could take part in training sessions and learn about the new tendencies in human trafficking, how to correctly identity victims of trafficking, how to prevent and combat trafficking in persons among refugees and locals. The seminars were staged in the framework of a project implemented by the public association “Woman for Contemporary Society”.

“We all know about the massive inflow of internally displaced people from the warzones of Ukraine who go through the Republic of Moldova or remain here, in the Republic of Moldova. They are subject to risks. In this connection, the public association “Woman for Contemporary Society”, which was founded in 2002 to assist victims of trafficking in human beings, especially women and children, working in support of refugees since February 2022, alongside the team and experts in the prevention and combating of trafficking in human beings, considered it necessary to contribute with effort, knowledge so as to prevent cases of trafficking in human beings,” the association’s head Vera Lupu told a news conference hosted by IPN.

The training was organized as part of the project “Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings among Ukraine War Refugees” that was launched last September. In 2022, partnerships were established with the General Police Inspectorate, the Police Academy “Ștefan cel Mare”, district councils and social assistance divisions of the districts of Călărași, Strășeni, Orhei and Anenii Noi so as to organize training sessions for 389 representatives of the National Referral System in these regions.

It should be noted that within the same project, there was launched the Platform of Civil Society Organizations “ANTITRAFIC”, which aims to develop the intervention areas, such as human trafficking research, cooperation and creation of partnerships in combating this phenomenon and participation in the drafting and implementation of policies on the prevention and combating of human trafficking. The platform, through the partnerships its aims to develop, will also contribute to strengthening functional mechanisms for protecting and assisting victims in the countries of origin, in transit countries.

The project “Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings among Ukraine War Refugees” is implemented in partnership with the Alliance of Active NGOs in the field of Child and Family Social Protection (APSCF) in the framework of the grants program of the project “Support for Refugees under APSCF Umbrella”, with financial support from the donor Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe.
