The June 20 closed sitting of Parliament, which centered on the situation in the Transnistria region, was interrupted after six hours of hearings. The lawmakers took two breaks without telling the press what they discussed. The hearings will continue on Friday, June 21, but the hour hasn’t been yet announced, IPN reports.

In the special sitting, there were questioned a number of officials, including Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, the Security and Information Service head Mihai Balan, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean, and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov. President Nicolae Timofti was present at the beginning of the sitting. He left in two hours without talking to the press.

At a certain moment, the Communist MPs opened the doors and invited the press in to see the ‘show’. Liberal MP Valeriu Saharneanu urged the journalists not to yield to the Communists and to respect the closed character of the sitting.

Eugen Carpov told the press that the sitting will be closed until a statement is adopted. He denied having said that Russia should be excluded from the format of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks, as the media reported.

The hearings in Parliament are held following tensions in the Transnistrian region. The Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a so-called legal act on the region’s border on June 10. The border includes the Moldovan-administered Bender town, Varnita and two more villages.
