Tuberculosis sufferers could receive the ration and transportation money transferred by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) directly to debit cards, which will replace the current payout method. This could be possible following talks between the CNAM leadership and representatives of commercial banks.

According to the CNAM, the discussion focused on the implementation of a new instrument to stimulate treatment adherence among tuberculosis sufferers. CNAM director Ion Dodon highlighted that tuberculosis is an important public health problem in Moldova and TB patients often need to go to their doctor every day to receive adequate care.

“CNAM covers transportation and meal costs for such patients in order to motivate them to adhere to their therapy, which is a long-lasting one, so that complete recovery can be achieved. To make it easier for people with tuberculosis to receive these food and transportation payouts, we are asking the banking sector to get involved in this social project”, said Ion Dodon.

It was decided that the CNAM will send the commercial banks involved the list of health care institutions to become partners in this project. The banks promised to propose a deal by the middle of next week.
