Chisinau and Tiraspol will not discuss a special legal status for the Transnistrian region during the next half a year because elections to choose the new leader of the region will be held there at this yearend, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated in a news conference, IPN reports.

According to the official, even if discussions with Tiraspol are not held, Chisinau should do its homework and should work out a strategy for providing this status, especially given the external partners’ support in this regard.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip told the same news conference that the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format, which were resumed after a hiatus of two years, center on narrower subjects such as the apostilling of university diplomas issued in Tiraspol and international circulation of vehicles with Transnistrian license plates. Debates on the steps that need to be taken to resolve the Transnistrian conflict will be yet held in the near future.
