Lanes dedicated to public transport were set up on 17 streets and boulevards in Chisinau. In total, it goes to about 45 kilometers. As a result, the speed of public transport increased from 12 to 20-25 kilometers per hour, and the travel time from one district to another decreased from 40 to 15-20 minutes, mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban stated when presenting the progress report after one year in office during his second term, IPN reports.
"This year we continued to expand the network of special lanes for public transport. In the last year alone, we created over 7 kilometers of special lanes for public transport on the three important arteries, such as Decebal Blvd, Alba Iulia St and Gheorghe Asachi St. Work is currently being done on other arteries in order to have the permission of the competent authorities," said the mayor.
According to him, the municipality continues to invest heavily in public transport. "The City Hall continues to develop more efficient and accessible public transport, contributing to the creation of sustainable and fast urban mobility for citizens. In recent years, 20 trolleybuses were brought in and other units are to arrive in Chisinau shortly. In total, the City Hall in recent years purchased a record number of buses and trolleybuses – over 330 units, modernizing the public transport park in the Chisinau municipality," said Ion Ceban.
The mayor noted that, together with his team, he managed to implement almost 40% of the development program proposed a year ago.
Ion Ceban was elected mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau in the November 2019 local elections. A year ago, he was re-elected for a new term.
