The Government approved the regulations concerning the organization and functioning of the National Council of Monuments that will consist of 14 persons. Its functioning will be ensured by the Ministry of Culture, which cannot yet have more than four representatives on the Council. The National Council of Monuments will come together twice a month, IPN reports.

The Council will examine and approve documents concerning the intervention in real estate that has the status of monument and in protection areas and areas included in the Register of Monuments Protected by the State. It will also check any type of works that can affect this type of monuments.

A sum of 205,000 lei was earmarked for paying salaries to the members of the Council next year.

While examining the regulations, Cabinet members underlined the necessity of ensuring increased protection for historical monuments as many of them are destroyed. It was also proposed conceding the most important monuments to the private sector as the state does not have available resources for restoring and maintaining them.
