The value of the symbolic presents offered to functionaries and officials out of politeness or on the occasion of certain protocol events must not exceed 1,000 lei. A bill to this effect was approved by the Government on February 20, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim proposed creating commissions for monitoring and assessing the presents given to functionaries within the public authorities. The commission will consist of three members, including a chairman and a secretary. The functionary is obliged to declare the present and to present it in the initial state to the commission during seven workdays. If the present is given during a trip, the recipient will have to declare it within seven days after returning to the workplace.
If the value of the present exceeds 1,000 lei, the recipient can keep it after paying the difference between the allowed value and the value determined by the commission for monitoring and assessing presents.
