The MPs approved the composition of the special commission for the election of the head of state. Four members of 11 should be designated by the Communist opposition, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Liberal Party fielded Valeriu Munteanu and Victor Popa, the Liberal Democratic Party - Tudor Deliu, George Mocanu and Iurie Chiorescu, while the Democratic Party - Alexandru Stoianoglo and Oleg Tulea.
The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu proposed that unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea should also form part of the commission, as his vote is important. Mihai Godea thanked Ghimpu for his trust, but said that he will not join the dance started by the MPs and withdrew his candidacy.
The group of Socialists put forward Veronica Abramciuc, but this candidate was withdrawn after it was agreed that only the parliamentary groups can have representatives on the commission.
The PCRM continues to boycott the legislature’s sittings. If it does not field delegates on the special commission for the election of the head of state, the commission will have only six members.
The presidential elections were set for March 16.
