The Association of Librarians of Moldova and the Romanian foundation “Progress” launched a project to set up special areas in six national libraries for holding different civic events. The areas will be called ‘nest of democracy’, IPN reports.

Head of the Association of Librarians Mariana Harjevschi said attractive areas for the community members to meet and discuss different projects and to initiate various projects will be created in five district public libraries in Briceni, Ungheni, Rezina, Hancesti and Leova and in the Law Public Library, which is the branch of the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu”. “This project supports the formation of trainers in the area of active citizenship,” she stated.

Within the project, each of the six libraries will receive by €600 for purchasing furniture and decorative elements. The areas will contain collections of books about volunteering and active citizenship.

The project is implemented with the assistance of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bucharest within the MATRA program. This project was earlier implemented in 14 county libraries of Romania. “Besides the creation of these areas, which was one of the objectives of this project, the biggest accomplishment was the fact that the people came together and overcame the barriers of cooperation,” said “Progres” training director Ovidiu Ana.

In Moldova the project will last for 12 months.
