The first visit of Head of Parliament Igor Corman abroad will be made on June 18 to Brussels, where he will speak about the promotion of the European reforms in Moldova and the possibility of obtaining a liberalized visa regime for Moldovans. The visit will be paid following an invitation made by the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, IPN reports.
“We must make use of all the possibilities offered by our European partners so as to build Europe at home. I hope that our people will see the concrete results of the European integration process,” Igor Corman said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.
He also said that he will give priority in Parliament to bills concerning the European integration and the creation of a free trade area. Another priority is the ratification of the border regime treaty with Romania and this issue will be included in the agenda of the next sittings of the legislature.
According to the Speaker, changes are needed to the Election Code. The law providing for the increase in the election threshold to 6% was passed in a hurry, but in a democratic society the threshold must be decreased. As to the antidiscrimination law, he said that no Christian norm was violated by its adoption as it only guarantees the right to work, not yet same-sex marriages or child adoption.
Igor Corman said that in 2009 he donated 500,000 lei to the Democratic Party as this was his wish. He underlined he will make everything possible to ensure a good atmosphere in the government coalition and in the relations between the Government and Parliament.
Igor Corman was elected Speaker on May 30.
