South Korea and Hong-Kong are interested in Moldovan wines

Businessmen from South Korea and Hong-Kong proposed the authorities of Moldova to organise the Festival of Moldovan wines and culture in their regions, after participating in the Shanghai Festival (China).
Head of the Technological Policy Department of the Agro-industrial Agency “Moldova-Vin” Valeriu Cibotari considers the Festival of Moldovan wine and Culture from Shanghai a success. The Festival took place on April 20-21. “The festival fitted the concept on the development of wine consumption culture, which includes among others, to offer the Chinese consumers the possibility of becoming acquainted with wines from as many as possible countries of the world”, Cibotari said.
The festival took place at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Shanghai. 400 specialists and traders from other countries tasted the Moldovan wines. According to Cebotari, the public showed high interest in the semisweet, dessert wines, as well as for “Heres”. The specialists of “Moldova-Vin” consider that the organisation of the Wine Festival in Shanghai is an important step for conquering the Chinese market.
20 Moldovan companies participated in the Festival, including “Milestii Mici”, “Bostavan-Vin”, “Lion-Gri”, “Purcari” etc.
The volume of the external trade with the People’s Republic of China registered USD 117.2 mln in 2006, by USD 74.5 mln more than in 2005, driven by the increase in imports of Chinese goods. The export of goods performed in 2006 totalled MDL 366.7 thousand, decreasing by 41.64% against the similar period last year.
China ranks the 50th among the countries Moldova exports goods to, having a share of 0.03% of the total.
