Soroca policeman arrested for acts of corruption

A police officer of the Soroca Police Inspectorate is investigated because he asked for 2,000 lei from a minibus driver for not causing impediments in his work, IPN has learned from the National Anticorruption Center.

According to the denouncer, the policeman promised he will not hold the minibus driver accountable for violating the traffic rules in exchange for the money.

The police officer was caught in the act of taking the money this morning, May 28. The lieutenant major was put under arrest for 72 hours and is investigated for passive corruption.

If he is found guilty, he will serve five to ten years in jail and will be fined 120,000 to 160,000 lei. He will also be banned from holding particular public posts for a period of seven to ten years.
