Soroca town was designated as the 2014 Youth Capital. The announcement was made in the Youth Prize Gala on November 12. This year the title is held by Ialoveni town, IPN reports.
Mayor of Soroca Elena Botnarenko said that 2014 is special for Soroca as the town will celebrate 515 years of its attestation next year, while the Youth Capital title is more than welcome.
Deputy head of Soroca district Vladimir Nicuta said the title of 2014 Youth Capital is an honor for the residents of the district, but also a great responsibility.
The chairman of the Soroca Youth Council Iulian Gasan said they obtained this title owing to the effort of all the inhabitants of Soroca. Soroca Fortress and the residents of the town will witnesses a new epoch in Moldova’s history.
Ungheni was the first town selected as the Youth Capital. The title was then passed on to Cahul and then to Ialoveni.
