Șor Party said the searches initiated by prosecutors this morning are abusive and illegal and are designed to stop the party’s protests, IPN reports.
“The PAS government and its pocket justice system are in agony. After over 2,000 people protested in front of the Prosecutor’s Office yesterday and demanded that acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu should resign, they (prosecutors, e.n.) conducted searches at the homes of activists of the party. In the so-called searches, pawns of the regime of Sandu entered the party’s territorial offices and homes of activists and confiscated personal belongings as if these are proofs in the criminal case started by order of PAS,” the party stated in a press release.
Șor Party noted that the current government tries to make its members keep silent and to remove it from the political arena. “We firmly condemn all these abusive acts and ask all the responsible factors to immediately stop harassing the opposition. We are witnessing gross violation of the basic human rights and freedoms, an attack on the rule of law principles and on the multiparty system and usurpation of the state power, which is the most serious offense stipulated by the Penal Code,” runs the press release.
Almost 100 searches were conducted this morning in the criminal case concerning the illegal financing of Șor Party at a number of addresses, including at the party’s offices and at domiciles of party members. Details will be provided later.
In this case, MP Marina Tauber last week was stripped of parliamentary immunity and was then arrested. She is now in remand detention at Penitentiary No. 13 and will be held there initially for 30 days. On Sunday, sympathizers of the party mounted a protest in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office, demanding that the MP should be set free. They tried to put up tents in front of the institution, but the police didn’t allow them to.
