The sitting slated for Monday in the case of Ilan Șor was postponed again. This was requested by the prosecution, citing the unavailability of the file, which has been sent to the Supreme Court after the defense requested a change of venue from the Cahul Court of Appeals.

Also on Monday, the defense requested that the current panel of judges be replaced. Șor’s lawyer Aureliu Colenco said that the request cannot be examined without the original file, as the ECHR case-law states that hearings cannot go on with a copy.

The next sitting was scheduled for Friday.

In June 2017, the former president of Banca de Economii’s board was sentenced to 7 years and a half in prison. Șor appealed and became mayor and MP in the meantime. His appeal has been heard with countless postponements in the Cahul Court of Appeals since February 2018. In June 2019, following a change of government, Șor disappeared in violation of bail conditions, and in August of the same year, he was stripped of parliamentary immunity.
