The program of activities dedicated to the April 2009 events starts at 8.00 on Thursday with a religious ceremony. It will be followed by laying of flowers at the memorial stone situated in the Great National Assembly Square and in the place where Valeriu Boboc died, Culture Division head Lucia Culev said in the April 4 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Info-Prim Neo reports. Flowers on April 7 will be also laid in Bubuieci village, where Valeriu Boboc was buried. The book “Moldova Hurts Me” written by Damian Hancu, one of the young persons who had been maltreated in police stations, will be launched at 10.30. The launch will be accompanied by an exhibition of photographs. Lucia Culev said Eugen Doga’s concert “My White City”, which is dedicated to the victims of the April 2009 events, will be held at the Organ Hall starting at 18.00. It involves the National Chamber Orchestra conducted by Cristian Florea, the Chamber Choir directed by Ilona Stepan, and students of the High School “Ciprian Porumbescu”. The activities will close with the event “Flame of Freedom” at 20.00. Those who want can go to the central square of Chisinau to light a candle in memory of those events and to watch a recital of folk and national-patriotic music. Hundreds of young people took to the streets on April 7, 2009, protesting against the results of the April 5 parliamentary elections. The peaceful protests degenerated into riots and violence. The Parliament Building and the Presidential Office were devastated. Many young people were arrested and taken to police stations, where they were maltreated and tried for violating public order and for vandalism. Valeriu Boboc died as a result of the injuries that he received when he was beaten by police officers in Chisinau’s central square.
